Shir Hadash regulary invites notable members of the Reconstructionist community to come to Saint Louis to share their expertise and knowldege.
Recently, Rabbi Deborah Waxman, a faculty member at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College focused on:
"What is Torah?"-A brief introduction to the cantata "What is Torah?" and a longer discussion of approaches to Jewish study and Jewish living
The content of "What is Torah?" covers major themes of Judaism as a Civilization-in a light-handed fashion designed to communicate on a "gut" level and on a "heart" level.We will spend some time looking at the text of "What is Torah?" and will use it as a springboard for discussions of contemporary approaches to Jewish study, Jewish culture and Jewish living.
Future Scholar-in-Residnce weekends are being planned for the Winter and Spring of 2009.
